Haines resident, Rodney Hinson has turned his love of the outdoors into a passion for outdoor products. Rod is an avid hunter and fisherman. Kayaking our lakes and rivers is his favorite pass time. After 17 years in law enforcement, Rod worked as a kayak and mountain trail guide during the summer months and then became the Tribal Youth Coordinator and Prevention Specialist for the Chilkoot Indian Association. He is now working full time on making knives, turned products, and many other things for Alaska Rod’s!
Rhonda Hinson grew up in Alaska, first in Nome and later in Haines. She was a library teacher and has turned her love of books and learning into working with Rod to study the local plants and create natural healing products from the bounty that we are blessed with in this beautiful place. Our goal is to make high quality knives and natural healing salves, using only the best ingredients available. We will provide the kind of service you expect from a small company that still makes their products by hand. Rhonda is now working full time in the store—so drop by and say “Hello!”
